Class: Tutorial Programs
Type: Under $10 Per Recipient
Objective: To reinforce instructions to retailers.
Strategy and Execution: Unlike other brands, Claussen's
pickles needed to be refrigerated, thereby attaining the crunchiness
that consumers expected. But consumer complaints indicated to
management that retailers sometimes neglected to store the pickles
cold.
Claussen management addressed the problem through retailer
education. Memos were mailed to 1,800 supermarket meat buyers
thanking them for their business and reminding them of the
importance of keeping the pickles refrigerated. To reinforce this
message, the memo was accompanied by a special mug with an embedded
refrigerant that helped keep beverages cold. Imprint copy ("cold,
crisp & delicious") on the mug alluded to what was expected of the
company's properly stored brand.
Results: "Extremely positive" reaction from recipients,
according to a Claussen spokesperson.

Every winning quarterback from Super Bowl 6

The town of Ismay, Montana briefly changed its name to become Joe,
Montana, in 1993 for one football season, then extended the gag for
another year. The name change worked out well for what was then the
smallest incorporated town in the state. Ismay raised more than
$70,000 selling Joe, Montana souvenirs. The Ismayans, or Joeys
(whatever you want to call them) used the money to build a
combination community hall-firehouse. - Billings Gazette, 11/20/05

Americans spent $14,300,000,000 on dog food in 2004. That's
$10,000,000,000 more than on baby food the same year. - The Week
