Happy New Year!

Wow - another year has flown by.  First I'd like to thank all of our BizPromo Newsletter subscribers and most importantly all of customers, making 2004 a great year.

2005 marks our 16th year in business - and we are going to continue our Monthly $500 Promotional Products give-a-way drawing for all BizPromo Newsletter subscribers.

With the new year comes many new years resolutions - my biggest one will be managing my time better.  Receiving about 300 to 400 SPAM emails everyday defiantly wastes a ton of time. Scrolling through all the junk eMail, trying to pluck out the quote requests and orders takes up a good 30 to 45 minutes everyday.

I had been using a free SPAM blocker for over a year - and was still getting hundreds of unwanted eMails everyday - that is until a customer of mine turned me on to SpamArrest in early December 2004.

The first day a subscribed to SpamArrest I thought my email server was down or my internet connection was not working - I had no SPAM, not one unwanted email in my inbox.

CASE STUDIESS

Objective:
To increase trade booth traffic and generate sales leads.

Strategy and Execution:
A pre-trade show package was sent to 250 targeted accounts. Inside, with the theme, "Profit-saving solutions to shrinkage control," was a corked glass bottle filled with shredded money and an invitation to visit the company's booth to receive a free gift. Those who returned the invitation to the booth and watched a product demonstration were given a magic bank with the slogan "Profits Reappear With Knogo." Participants watched their money "disappear" into the magic bank, and were then shown how to make their money "reappear." As a follow up to the show, attendes were presented a large $100 bill mirrored wall calendar to remind them all year long to "See Yourself in the Money with Knogo's Loss Prevention Solutions."

Results:
It was reported that there was a 37% increase in attendance of targeted accounts over previous shows and a similar increase in sales.

Pure sales joy. A new year with almost 5 full sales months (except a few quick holidays) before the summer vacation season begins. It’s the longest selling season of the year -- full of nothing but working decision makers, active budgets, pressing timelines and actions that need to be taken. For most in the sales world, this is a wonderful time to sell.

Preparation
It’s the initial call, your prospect is engaged and you’ve begun your discussion. After your prospect responds to several of your open-ended questions, you begin to discover the prospect may not be a prospect at all (at least not for the next quarter or two). No money. No timeline for implementation. No perceived urgency, need or other pressing priorities. Whatever the reason, you know you should invest your time elsewhere.

You need a clean exit -- an exit that’ll allow you to move on without offending the prospect while also leaving the door open for future contact initiated by them or you.

Invest some time outside the money hours (on your own or with your team) in creating a couple of solid and polite exit statements for those difficult sales situations where you know you can better serve elsewhere (at least for now). A professional and courteous exit will help you create good will and plant seeds among people who may one day become qualified prospects. And remember – you reap what you sow. Contact
At what time did you make your first sales call today? How about yesterday when you kicked off the new year? Remember, your sales day begins with the first call you make to a prospect or customer. Prep activity, paperwork, and water cooler talk don’t kick off a sales day.

Consider a schedule which commits you and your team to making contact with prospects and customers at the first possible moment of the day and carries until your midday lunch break. Upon return, get right back to making contact. If paperwork, meetings or other non-selling activities can’t be done outside the money hours, save them for the final hour of the day. With this approach, you’ll minimize the chance of your non-selling activities bloating into your irreplaceable selling time and stealing your would-be revenue (and commission) possibilities.

Take it one step further. Once you’ve finished your end-of-the-day activities, make one more call and create roughly 250 additional sales opportunities each year.

Care
When you and your team are working with your prospects and customers (which should be about 85% of your time), remember that gray areas of communication can present serious challenges to the mutual trust level of your long-term relationships. Work to eliminate any omissions in your communication and be sure that all possible gray areas of understanding are minimized.

Invest some time (outside the money hours, as always) in a “gray and omissions check” of your standard sales statements, presentations, and other regular sales communications.

Think long-term as you develop your customer relationships and you’ll always be one of the best in the business... long term.
